Where the hours actually go
People are often surprised that the interior takes longer than the exterior. On a family vehicle in upstate New York, it usually does. Salt works down into the carpet backing where a vacuum cannot reach it, and pet hair weaves into upholstery fibres rather than sitting on top of them.
Both need extraction: a cleaning solution worked into the fabric and then pulled back out along with what it has lifted. That is a slow process and it is the difference between an interior that looks clean and one that is clean. Surface wiping leaves the salt exactly where it was.
The exterior half
The outside starts with a proper wash, then decontamination. Iron fallout from brake dust embeds in the clear coat and shows up as tiny rust-coloured specks; a chemical iron remover dissolves it. Tar needs a solvent and dwell time rather than abrasion. After that a mechanical decontamination lifts whatever is still bonded, which is what leaves the paint feeling smooth rather than gritty.
Then protection goes on, so the finish survives the next few months of weather rather than starting to deteriorate the week after you collect it. On a full detail that is a sealant; if you want years rather than months, that is a coating conversation.
Being realistic about stains
Not everything comes out, and we would rather say so up front than over-promise at the booking and disappoint you at handover. Dye transfer from denim onto light leather, older set-in food and drink stains, and sun damage on a dashboard are often permanent.
What we will do is tell you which is which when we look at the car, give you a realistic picture of the improvement, and not charge you for hours spent chasing something that was never going to lift.

How long does a full detail take?
It depends on the size of the vehicle and how much work the interior needs. A car with pet hair and ground-in salt is a much longer job than a clean commuter, and we would rather quote you after seeing it.
Can you get pet hair out of the seats?
Usually, yes. It is one of the more time-consuming parts of an interior, which is why we ask about it when quoting.
Will it remove every stain?
No, and anyone promising that has not seen enough interiors. Some dyes and older set-in stains are permanent. We will tell you which is which when we look at it.
Do you do interior-only or exterior-only?
Yes. Plenty of people only need one or the other, and we would rather sell you the half you need.
