How the coverage works

We run out of a shop at 40 North Street in Saratoga Springs and a van that carries its own water and power. That combination decides where we can work: the shop takes anything needing controlled conditions, the van takes everything else — including apartment parking and commercial lots where there is no tap or socket to borrow.

We travel up to about 50 miles, with a travel fee past 25. We tell you which side of that line you are on when you book, rather than adding it to the invoice afterwards.

What changes town to town

More than you would expect. Cars in Albany sit in decks and on the street all day, so they collect brake dust, construction fallout and door-edge damage. Cars in Clifton Park do Northway mileage, which means stone chips on the front end and salt spray arriving at speed. Latham sits on a heavy commercial corridor, so road film and tar build on rocker panels faster than a few streets back would suggest.

The one constant is winter. Road salt is hygroscopic — it holds moisture against whatever it sits on — and it works down into carpet backing where a vacuum will never reach it. Between December and April that is most of what we are dealing with, everywhere on this list.
