Ceramic Coating in Saratoga Springs, NY

Upstate Auto Detailing applies ceramic coating at our shop in Saratoga Springs, NY, over paint we've corrected first. The coating cures onto the clear coat and stays, so road film washes off easier and water beads up instead of drying into spots. It won't fill swirls, which is why the correction comes first.

The Difference

Why customers choose Upstate Auto Detailing for ceramic coating

A coating makes the car easier to wash and holds its gloss, and it comes with a warranty.

  • Washing gets easier

Brake dust, bug splatter and winter salt film sit on top of the coating rather than gripping the clear coat, so you're not scrubbing as hard.

  • Gloss that holds

The coating adds a clear layer of its own over the corrected paint, and it doesn't wear off in a few months like wax.

  • Warranty-backed and on CARFAX

Our ceramic coatings carry a warranty, and the job gets recorded on the vehicle's CARFAX history, which stays with the car when you sell it.

What a coating actually does

A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that cures hard and bonds to the clear coat, so unlike wax it doesn't wash off. Day to day you notice it at wash time, when brake dust, bugs, tree sap and winter salt film come off the coating with less scrubbing and fewer passes.

Nothing gets filled, though. Measured in microns, it follows the surface underneath exactly, so swirls under a coating just become glossier swirls. A stone still chips the paint through it too; stopping that takes film, which is thick enough to absorb the hit. Our post on whether ceramic coating is worth it covers when we'd say skip it.

Why the prep costs more than the coating

Most of what you pay for in a coating job is the hours before the bottle gets opened. Wash, chemical decon for embedded iron and industrial fallout, mechanical decon for whatever the chemicals can't reach, then correction, and only after all of that is the surface ready for the coating to bond.

We take paint depth readings before any machine touches the car, since clear coat doesn't grow back. The reading decides how hard we can correct, and once in a while it tells us a panel has had enough and should be left alone.

You still have to wash a coated car, and around here that mostly means salt. Road salt is hygroscopic, it holds moisture against whatever it's sitting on, and while it comes off a coating far easier, leaving it on all winter is still about the worst thing you can do to a vehicle here.

Wash more often in the salt months with a pH-neutral shampoo, and stay out of brush-type automatic washes, which scratch a coating the same way they scratch paint. We'll go over the specifics for your car when you pick it up. If something comes up in February, call us.

Ceramic coating vs. paint protection film

Film is the one that stops rock chips, which is why plenty of people film the front end and coat the rest.

Watch For These

Signs you need ceramic coating

If water stops beading or the paint feels rough after a wash, the protection has worn off.

  • Water sits in flat sheets on the hood instead of beading
  • Paint still feels rough under your fingertips right after a wash
  • Swirl marks show up as a spiderweb under direct sun or a gas-station light
  • New car, and you want it protected before its first winter
  • Washing and waxing doesn't make a visible difference anymore

Our Process

The Upstate Auto Detailing ceramic coating process

A coating job runs in four steps, and the paint is inspected and corrected before any coating goes on.

  1. Step : 01

    Inspection

We look at the paint under good lighting and take depth readings where it matters, so we know how much clear coat there is to work with.

  2. Step : 02

    Decontamination

Chemical and then mechanical decon to pull out the embedded iron, tar and rail dust a wash leaves behind.

  3. Step : 03

    Paint correction

Machine polishing to take out swirls and light scratches. The number of stages depends on the paint, and you'll know that before we start.

  4. Step : 04

    Coating and cure

We apply it panel by panel, level it, and let it cure indoors, then tell you when it's safe to wash.

Questions about ceramic coating

Start here for pricing, timing, care and booking details.

How much does it cost to ceramic coat a car in Saratoga County?

At our Saratoga Springs shop, ceramic coating runs $900 to $1,550 or more, and that includes the paint correction underneath. Where it lands depends on the vehicle and how much correction the paint needs, so we quote after seeing it.

Is it worth putting a ceramic coating on your car in the Capital Region?

If you want washing to get easier and the gloss to hold, yes. Brake dust, bug splatter and winter salt film sit on the coating instead of gripping the clear coat. Ours are warranty-backed and the work goes on the vehicle's CARFAX record, which stays with the car when you sell it. It won't stop rock chips, though. Paint protection film does that job.

How long does a ceramic coating last on a car in Saratoga County?

Depends on the product, the prep, and how the car is stored and washed. When we quote a specific coating, we give you the expected life for that coating.

Can I just rinse off my ceramic coated car in a Capital Region winter?

Not really. A coated car still needs regular washes, and in the salt months that means washing more often with a pH-neutral shampoo. Salt comes off a coating far easier, but leaving it on all winter is still hard on any car. Stay out of brush-type automatic washes, which scratch a coating the same way they scratch paint.

Does ceramic coating need to cure, and where does that happen in Saratoga County?

Yes. We apply it panel by panel at our shop at 40 North St in Saratoga Springs and let it cure indoors, then tell you when it's safe to wash. A driveway can't control dust, temperature or humidity, which is why coating isn't done on mobile visits.

How to book ceramic coating
